01 — Project introduction
Double-Shaft Shredder — Built for the Messiest Waste Streams
The double-shaft shredder is designed to handle a wide range of waste streams with very different material properties — from scrapped cars, used tires, and electronic waste to wooden pallets, plastic drums, refrigerators, and bulky municipal solid waste. Two counter-rotating shafts run at low speed and high torque, using shearing rather than impact to break down the feedstock. This low-RPM shearing action minimizes dust, noise, and sparks, making the unit especially suitable for hazardous or flammable waste where ignition risk must be kept to a minimum.
The blade geometry is fully customizable to match the processed material. Depending on the application, the rotor can be fitted with V-shape teeth, hook cutters, flat blades, or a combination, and the blade thickness, diameter, and tooth count are engineered to the required throughput and final flake size. A single machine platform can therefore serve as a coarse shredder for metals, a size-reduction stage for plastics, or a pre-shredder for downstream separation lines.
A spacing comb mounted between the blades and connected to the inner wall of the shredder chamber plays a critical supporting role. It prevents fibrous and flexible materials from wrapping around the shafts, guides the feed into the shearing zone, and enforces a controlled discharge size. The result is a cleaner cut, more uniform flakes, and lower wear on the rotor bearings and drive system — translating into higher uptime and lower operating cost for the operator
